God’s Promises of Healing

Bible Reading Plans, Get to know the Bible

God’s Word is full of promises of healing. Sickness and disease were not part of God’s World at the beginning, and Jesus showed that they would not be a part of the coming Kingdom either. I’ve put together a month’s worth of verses on God’s promises of healing for you to lean on in times of need.

This Bible Reading Plan is the seventh in my series of Bible Plans on the Promises of God. Read on to download the 31 Day plan for this month, and to find links to the other plans, they can be done in any order.

Bible Verses on Answered Prayer

Throughout the Bible we find many promises of healing.

Psalm 30v2

God’s Promises of Healing

Throughout the Bible, God makes many promises of healing. From the Psalms, the words of the prophets, and the actions of Jesus.

god’s promises of healing in the old testament

In the Old Testament God gave many promises that he would heal his people.

Bless the Lord, O my soul,  and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity,  who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, O Lord, in the morning you hear my voice; in the morning I prepare a sacrifice for you and watch. Psalm 103:2-4

For I will restore health to you, and your wounds I will heal, declares the Lord!’ Jeremiah 30:17

Our Participation in God’s Promises of Healing

Many of God’s promises for healing are unconditional, but sometimes they do contain an instruction for us as well.

Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones. Proverbs 3:7-8

He sent out his word and healed them, and delivered them from their destruction. Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man! Psalm 107:20-21

Promises of Healing through prayer

One of the main ways God wants us to participate is through prayer.

Turn back, and say to Hezekiah the leader of my people, Thus says the Lord, the God of David your father: I have heard your prayer; I have seen your tears. Behold, I will heal you. 2 Kings 20:5

Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. 16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. James 5:14-16

Promise of Healing through Jesus Death

One of the main promises in the Bible is that Jesus died so we could be healed.

Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed. Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known. Isaiah 53:4-5

He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. 1 Peter 2:24

Final thought on God’s Promises of Healing

Sometimes we don’t get the healing we think we need, but that does not mean that God has forgotten us or his promises.

My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26
